FAQ

Here are answers to commonly asked questions. Please review before contacting us.

About the School

Is RIVER Worship School a theological seminary?

A. No, it is not a typical theological seminary for training pastors or missionaries. It is a specialized school specifically for worship servants and those involved in praise ministry.

Does RIVER Worship School issue student visas?

A. No, we do not issue student visas.
RIVER Worship School is an online school, and all lectures are conducted remotely via the internet. There are no in-person classes that require physical attendance in Japan. Therefore, we are not an institution that can sponsor or issue student visas. You can participate in our program from anywhere in the world with a stable internet connection.

What is the minimum age to enroll?

A. You must be at least 16 years old to enroll. If you are under 16 and wish to enroll, please contact our office for special provisions. There is no upper age limit.

Can I watch the lectures on a smartphone?

A. Yes, you can.
However, videos and materials may be difficult to see on a smartphone screen, and it may be challenging to open multiple screens simultaneously. For a comfortable learning experience, we recommend using a computer.

I cannot attend lectures in real-time when they are streamed. Can I watch archived (recorded) videos?

A. Yes, you can.
You may watch the recordings as many times as you like within the current academic year.

Will printed materials such as handouts be mailed to me?

A. No, we do not mail printed materials.
When handouts or other materials are available, they will be posted to the member page for you to download and print at your convenience.

Are there tests, reports, or other assignments?

A. We do not conduct tests, but we ask you to submit a “Response Sheet” once a month.
This involves entering your responses to the lecture content (such as reflections on what you learned or testimonies) into a form. While this is not graded, the instructor will review your submissions.
Submitting at least 80% of all Response Sheets throughout the program is required for graduation.

Can I attend classes in person instead of online?

A. With a few exceptions, all classes are conducted online. In-person attendance is available for live-streamed gatherings, regional meetups, and conferences. Participation opportunities will be announced and confirmed as they arise.

Can I take multiple workshop courses?

A. Yes, you can take multiple courses.
However, if there are many applicants, priority may be given to your first choice. Also, if you enroll in classes scheduled at the same time on the same day, you will need to watch one of them as an archived video.
We make efforts to avoid scheduling conflicts, but please check the planned schedule and apply with this understanding.

Can I change my workshop selection midway through the year?

A. No, changes are generally not permitted. If you wish to take another workshop, you may enroll in it as an additional course. There will be no refund for your original workshop fee. If you wish to change levels within your selected class, please contact our office. We will consult with the instructor and arrange a class change if necessary.

Can I take only workshops without enrolling in required courses such as Weekly Lectures?

A. No, you cannot. Workshop-only enrollment is not available. If you wish to take workshops, you must enroll in RIVER Worship School, pay the annual tuition, administrative fee, and enrollment fee, and also take the required courses.

May I contact instructors directly with questions?

A. For questions about class content, you may send them to the email address provided in each class. For all other inquiries, please contact the school office by email. If a response from an instructor is needed, the office will forward your question to the instructor.
Please note that responses may take some time.

About Applications

Can I pay the tuition and enrollment fees in installments?

A. In principle, we only accept “annual lump-sum payment.”
To reduce administrative costs and keep tuition as affordable as possible, we ask for one-time payment. Thank you for your understanding.

Can I enroll after the application deadline? If so, how will the tuition be calculated?

A. If the membership has not reached capacity, mid-year enrollment may be possible. If mid-year enrollment is available, it will be announced on our website.
However, if you enroll mid-year, you will need to watch archived recordings for all lectures, including classrooms and workshops, that occurred before your enrollment. The annual tuition, administrative fee, and enrollment fee remain the same, with no discounts.

If I withdraw mid-year, will I receive a refund?

A. No, refunds are not available.
Except in cases where the school closes due to administrative reasons, no refund will be given for fees already paid (annual tuition, administrative fee, enrollment fee, workshop fees, etc.). Please understand this before enrolling.

Can one family member enroll and watch together with the rest of the family?

A. No, only the enrolled individual may access the lectures.
If multiple family members wish to participate, each person must register individually. We offer a “Family Discount” for family members living in the same household (the first person pays the “General” rate, and additional family members receive the “Family Discount”).
Only registered members may participate in classrooms, workshops, and events.

Is consumption tax included in the fees?

A. Yes, consumption tax is included.

Is this a for-profit school?

A. No, it is not.
We operate with minimal necessary expenses. We ask for lump-sum payment to reduce administrative costs. If you calculate the cost per lecture, you will see that our pricing is not set for profit.

Do I need to prepare anything special to watch the lectures?

A. A stable internet connection and proper system requirements are necessary for taking classes.

I completed my application, but I cannot log in.

A. Your membership registration is completed after your payment is confirmed.
You cannot log in immediately after applying. Please wait until you receive the “Membership Registration Complete” email, which will include your password.

My membership registration is complete, but I still cannot log in.

A. The following issues may be the cause:
– Your email address was not entered correctly.
– Your password was not entered correctly.
– If you do not know your email address (ID) or password, please contact us.

I did not receive an email after applying.

A. If you have not received automatic emails such as “Application Complete,” “Membership Registration Complete,” or “Payment Instructions,” the following may be the cause:
– Your spam settings may have classified the automatic email as spam.
– Your smartphone may have rejection settings enabled.
– Your email address may contain consecutive dots “..” or a dot immediately before the “@” symbol “.@”, which does not comply with RFC standards.

Can I pay by credit card?

A. No, we do not accept credit card payments.
The only payment method available is Wise transfer (one-time payment). Payment details will be provided after your application is confirmed.

Is approval from my pastor required for enrollment?

A. Yes, you must obtain approval from your church pastor. The purpose of RIVER Worship School is to train worship servants. What you learn here will be shared within your church and put into practice in your actual ministry. You may also have questions as you study, and there may be times when you need support from your pastor who knows you well. For these reasons, we ask that each applicant confirm and obtain approval from their church pastor before enrolling.

For mid-year enrollment, does annual tuition mean one year from the date of payment?

A. No, it does not. The annual tuition covers the current academic year. Since mid-year enrollees can also view all lectures via archived videos, the fee is the same for all students.
